David Roubach is CEO and Founder of Balena, leading Balena’s strategy and long-term vision. Before Balena, David co-founded “The Fridge,” a non-profit organization aiming at reducing food waste. The project provided a series of community fridges located in public spaces, enabling food to be shared within a community, allowing anyone to put in and take out food. David studied Business Administration at the Reichman University in Israel, and Fashion and Sustainability at the University of Bocconi in Milan.

ZERO-TEX is a multifunctional fabric for all situations. It is durale, breathable, antistatic, anti-fouling, water-repellent and much more. I was able to see and touch this fabric at Rakuten Fashion Week Tokyo. I met the designer Chieko Ikegami, who made a collection using this fabric and won the grand prize in the brand contest.

An innovative European project is going to process and recycle plastic textile waste. The partnership plans to reach the objectives set by the European Union in reducing CO2 emissions by 2030. The consortium is rallying 16 public and private European organizations working together for more circular economy. The WhiteCycle project, coordinated by Michelin, was launched on Friday, July 1st. Its main goal is to develop a circular solution to convert complex waste containing textile made of plastic into products with high added value. A sector alliance that was formed to tackle issues relating to microplastics has completed the next phase of its project to develop a harmonised industry standard for the supply chain. The Cross Industry Agreement (CIA) has revealed the results of a fibre fragmentation trial that has been carried out in advance of establishing a CEN Standard (from the European Committee for Standardization). Once confirmed, the standard will also become an ISO standard under the Vienna Agreement, providing apparel manufacturers and policy makers with a vital tool as part of wider work to reduce microfibre shedding into the environment.
