When looking for high-quality clothing, it ’s important to consider the source. A reputable clothing manufacturer has a long history of research and design behind its products. Italian production is often seen as a sign of quality, as the country has a long tradition of fashion excellence.
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, reportedly dumping 92 million tonnes of discarded items into landfill every year. However, fashion tech start-ups such as Unmade have begun to introduce innovations like on-demand production to champion the cause of sustainable fashion throughout the entire supply chain. GlobalData’s retail insight writer Deborah Williams talks to Kirsty Emery-Laws, co-founder and chief customer success officer at Unmade, to find out if on-demand is the key to fashion sustainability.
Modern textile production goes back to the years of the First industrial revolution. In just a few decades, in the late 18th and first half of the 19th century, the manufacturing system has been replaced by industrial processes. There are huge machines, which are processing quantities of raw material which were not possible by then. Only decades later the conveyor lines and mass production were implemented. But what is the situation today?
Micro-Factories show integrated production processes. They become more and more popular at trade fairs and exhibitions. Micro-factories will be the focal subject at the coming Texprocess in Frankfurt, 14-17 May 2019.

The company was set up by Alberto Bardazzi in 1983 : its first name was Alberto Bardazzi Maglia and its target group the small “pronto-moda” (ready-to-wear fashion) of Prato . The idea of producing knitted fabrics placed the company in a niche market segment, where Alberto was able to express his talent. The products made in those years are milestones in the history of fabrics and it is no coincidence that they are exhibited at the Prato Textile Museum. They had a great impact on fashion and this led Alberto to change from being a sole proprietor to a limited liability company. In the following years he moved the headquarters twice in order to find a larger space while at the same time the turnover and the number of employees were increasing. In 2001 the financial newspaper “il Sole 24 ore” listed the Alberto Bardazzi S.r.L. as one of the best 500 companies in Italy and this was the most exciting period for Alberto’s professional career. In 2003 while doing new ambitious projects, Alberto died prematurely of a disease that did not take away his desire to work and to impress. It seemed the end, but it was a new starting point because the Bardazzi family was strong enough to draw motivation and stimuli to carry on with the company. Today it is run by a sound and experienced group of people and it is proud of having sales relationships all over the world.

Fast fashion consists of collections based on the most recent fashion trends presented at every year's Spring and Autumn Fashion Weeks. The main idea is garments to be designed and manufactured quickly and cheaply, which allows consumers to take advantage of current clothing styles at a lower price. In Fast fashion production cycles are compressed into 4 to 6 weeks and in some cases even less than that. This creates more buying seasons in the same time and space.
